Top disappointing gadgets of 2024 according to Gizmodo
Gizmodo has prepared a list of disappointing gadgets that saw the light in 2024. Among them are the AI assistant Rabbit R1, the Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headset, and Ray-Ban Meta* smart glasses.
Sony Bravia Theater U
Sony Bravia Theater U neck speakers were supposed to transmit sound to the user so that others would not hear anything. At the same time, the ears and head would remain free from headphones. The device performs its functions only if you sit still and straight, and most users listen to music on the go. The Sony speaker costs $300. For this money, journalists recommend buying noise-canceling headphones.
Apple Vision Pro
Vision Pro is the most technologically advanced virtual reality headset that never became popular. The device turned out to be heavy, with low autonomy and a lack of useful applications. Now the headset can be used for watching movies, calls, or indie games. For everything else, either there are no applications, or the battery charge is not enough. It is also worth considering that the Apple Vision Pro in the minimum configuration will cost $3,500.
Rabbit R1
Rabbit R1 is an unusual gadget with a screen, camera, and neural networks on board. The developers noted that this particular device would make people give up smartphones. It was planned that with the help of R1, users would be able to access an AI assistant at any time, ask him questions, and show the surroundings. As a result, the gadget poorly recognizes images, and its charge lasts only a few hours. So for now, you can continue to use familiar smartphones.
AirPods 4
In 2024, Apple released the AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation. Usually, this feature was only available in higher-end models. The device performs its tasks well, but the earbuds often fall out of the ears, and the battery does not last all day. The publication recommends choosing something else.
Ray-Ban Meta*
The Ray-Ban Meta* smart glasses allow you to record first-person video, listen to music, and receive notifications. There are also neural network functions on board that spoil the overall impression of the device. The chatbot often gives incorrect answers, and if you speak too quickly, the glasses may not recognize speech at all.
Dell XPS 13 (2024)
Journalists were disappointed with the touch function keys. Apple had already made this mistake with the Touch Bar in the MacBook, but Dell engineers decided to repeat the idea of their colleagues. Otherwise, according to Gizmodo, the laptop turned out to be good.
Razer Freyja
Razer Freyja is a chair with tactile feedback in games, which should better immerse the user in the gaming process. The function does not work everywhere, and there is also a cable from the chair to the outlet. It is very easy to hit the cable with the chair's wheels.
MSI Claw
The portable gaming console from MSI, according to journalists, was released at an unfortunate time. There were already solutions from Steam and Asus on the market, so the device had to offer something better. Users received low performance and a poorly thought-out design. At the same time, Claw costs $800.
Roto VR Explorer Chair
Roto VR Explorer Chair is a gaming chair for virtual reality. According to the creators' idea, it should turn in the direction the user is looking. The chair's movements are not always smooth, and in more dynamic games it does not work at all.
